Tanja Vuksanovic was born and raised in Nis, Serbia. In 2012, she earned a Master of Arts in Graphic Design from the University of Nis, where she received a Special Commendation at the European and International Student Poster Design Competition. After five years of teaching Fine Arts at Elementary and High School in Nis, she sought opportunities abroad and relocated to Boston, Massachusetts. While there, she volunteered as an assistant lecturer at the MIT Museum, participated in film and camera workshops at AgX Boston Film Collective, and attended courses in Design & Multimedia.

She relocated to Gainesville, Florida, in 2021 to begin a Master of Fine Arts in Creative Photography, after being awarded a Full-Ride Scholarship to the University of Florida. She was also a recipient of the Grinter Fellowship for Fine Arts Students and the Certificate of Outstanding Merit for her work during her studies. Additionally, during her MFA, she worked as a Graduate Assistant, had her work published in Dinner + No Show, and exhibited her work at various showcases including Moisturizer Show, 4Most Gallery, and The Gary Libby Focus Gallery. Since 2024, she continues her artistic career in Berlin.

In the beginning of Tanja’s career, in her education and work as a Graphic Designer, her interest in the living was expressed through exhibited projects addressing issues such as animal protection, environmental awareness, and natural resource conservation. As her Graphic Design practice matured, and she studied the history and technical aspects of film and camera, she leaned more into her photography. With this new focus, she began to experiment with original photographic material that not only informed her artwork and design projects, but existed as a separate avenue of artistic expression. This was the start of Tanja’s journey from Design Photography to Fine Arts Photography.

At its latest evolution, Tanja’s practice is the culmination of her diverse education and skillset, and centers on the interplay between photography, video, and sculpture. Her catalog of works spans a range of video-based forms, including projection mapping, stop motion, cameraless animation, 35mm and 16mm analog film, and music videos. She creates immersive installations by projecting moving images onto sculptural forms composed primarily of repurposed materials. This merging of the tangible and the cinematic generates multi-sensory experiences that invite viewers into spatial environments shaped by light, movement, and texture.
